The place we call home.

Some people stay friends for a while, others forever. We take pride in our new Slack community channel, with curated discussions and regular ask-me-anything-sessions.

For us, it’s a lovely lil’ place to meet friends, colleagues and like-minded folks. It’s a place to be respectful and honest. Embrace authenticity and diversity. Connect and help others.

Our cool and friendly Smashing community will hang out at Slack.

Here's How We Spent The Money

We believe in an open, diverse and accessible web. With your help, we want to reward people doing great work to make it happen. That’s why we actively support community events and projects, and people behind them. We want to keep things fully transparent, so here we’ll be reporting how we spend the money.

That’s what we’ve been doing over the last 30 days (May 9, 2018):

  • Reached 855 Smashing members after 164 days, with 28 supporters, 472 members and 355 smashers. Total: $5639 per month. You made it happen, so thank you.
  • Ran a session on Performance with Tim Kadlec and one on Checkout UX with Christian Holst,
  • released two early Smashing Book 6 previews: Lyza Gardner’s chapter on Service Workers and Laura Elizabeth’s chapter on Design Systems,
  • introduced Smashing Membership Slack, a place for updates about latest goodies and events, as well as friendly, respectful conversations,
  • supported Kyiv ReactJS Meetup, New Digital School, and LTUX Amsterdam,
  • introduced 10 diversity tickets to SmashingConf San Francisco and SmashingConf Toronto, with kind support of Google,
  • provided mentorship to new speakers in the industry.

It’s all made possible with your contributions. You made it happen. So thank you.

Next steps:

  • Continue working on Smashing Book 6 and Smashing Print,
  • watch out for new Smashing TV webinars with Marcy Sutton, Sara Soueidan and Vitaly Friedman,
  • coach new voices in the industry to speak at a meet-up or a conference,
  • support people who want to learn but can’t afford it with Smashing eBooks, webinars and learning material,
  • support web-related non-profit events and meetups.

Cat Is Happy!

Excited and energized from its adventures last week, this week, the Smashing Cat is feeling like exploring something new, obscure and utterly complicated. A target for the week: cooking an authentic Italian pizza. Do you know any recipes?

There is always something magical in learning an entirely new skill. Why don't you try something different this weekend? Design a poster? A book cover? Or a packaging for a fancy new bottle of milk? The Cat would appreciate it, too!
