Every now and again our Smashing Editorial team gets requests for very specific articles on very specific topics. The aim of this Smashing Magazine extended section is to cover specifically technical, advanced articles on programming and coding — be it JavaScript, PHP, Ruby or programming in general.
We’re pleased to introduce the editor of the Smashing Coding section, Dudley Storey:
“The web is born in code: no matter how impressive the design, no matter how good the device, without HTML, CSS and JavaScript, sites cease to exist. That fact makes taking the role of Coding editor at Smashing Magazine, with its well-earned reputation for high standards, an intimidating and humbling experience.
I pledge to bring you articles that balance the many priorities that coders face: clarity, semantic value, speed, demand, and accessibility. I’ll be showcasing pieces that discuss the latest cutting-edge tools and techniques, while also giving room for articles that communicate a fresh understanding of core technologies. I see my work at Smashing Magazine as very much a continuation of my primary job as a web development teacher in New Media program at SAIT Polytechnic in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. I’ve been writing about HTML, CSS, JavaScript and SVG for the last five years: on my blog (demosthenes.info), for Smashing Mag, in books (Pro CSS3 Animation) and elsewhere. I also tweet @dudleystorey.
I get around Calgary year-round by bike, including our -40°C winters. When the weather warms up, I take advantage of summer vacation to travel and explore the whole wide world.”
